Reflect on this experience. What have you discovered about yourself as an observer?
Process:
The facilitator asks the participants first of all to reflect on their experience with the Five Question Protocol:
- What was it like to be intentionally slowed down?
- What was it like to have judgment suspended?
- How did they respond when a colleague noticed something they had not seen?
- How did they respond when a colleague had a different interpretation?
The facilitator asks the participants to reflect on what they learned about themselves individually and as members of a group:
- The facilitator asks the participants to reflect on how their experience with the 5QP may have influenced their interpretation of the work of art.
- The facilitator finally asks the participants to reflect on ways that the experience might be applied to their professional work.
Reflection:
- Self-disclosure is invited but not mandated in this part of the practice. If the group is initially quiet, the facilitator invites the participants to answer these questions for themselves silently.
- By the end of these sessions the positive sense of community established by the non-judgmental quality of the practice often results in active self-reflection about the process and its impact on their interpretation on the artwork.
