Beyond Observation: Developing Clinical Competencies at the Art Gallery

Stephanie Brown Clark, MD, PhD and Susan Dodge-Peters Daiss, MA, MDIV

In 2002, Stephanie Brown Clark from the University of Rochester’s School of Medicine and Dentistry’s Division of Medical Humanities and Bioethics partnered with Susan Dodge-Peters Daiss of the University of Rochester’s Memorial Art Gallery to develop a protocol using the visual arts to enhance skills of observation for medical students and other healthcare practitioners.  This interactive site demonstrates the Five Question Protocol they developed, and sets this project within the context of both medical and museum education.
